SUMMARY:Jayne Dion Shares Secrets of Scenery Design
DESCRIPTION:Everyone who appreciates unique art careers will love meeting sculptor Jayne Dion. She will share behind-the-scenes stories and photos of her career both as a fine artist and scenery designer. \nMuch of her scenic work is presented as large scale seasonal displays at South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa where she has been a resident artist for more than 20 years. The experience has made her an expert in creating substructures and armatures\, carving foams\, and using adhesives\, paints\, and sealers in creating dramatic larger-than-life tableau’s that thrill thousands of plaza visitors annually. “Part of the challenge is knowing where the pieces will be installed\, and coming up with solutions to get them from the shop to the display destination\,” she said. Examples she will discuss include holiday displays including a six foot Faberge’ egg. \nLocally\, Dion is noted for exhibiting at Festival of Arts for several years. Her intricate wall sculptures often reference trees and nature\, have a poetic narrative\, and have uncommon combinations of pen and ink\, watercolor\, woods\, and metals. \nAs a bonus to those attending LOCA Art Talks\, everyone will receive a post-event certificate for 15%-off food at nearby Lumberyard Restaurant. Advance registration is required. \nSPEAKER:  Jayne Dion \nFEE: Free to LOCA Members\,  Non-Members $20 \nAdvance registration is required\, Members email: loca@LOCAarts.org \nLCAD Gallery 374 Ocean Ave. Metered parking on the street. \n

SUMMARY:LOCA Art Talk ~ Backstage - Creating Recycled Fashion
DESCRIPTION:Backstage – Creating Recycled Fashion \nDiscover the fun of up-scaling discards into wearable art \nWhat do artists do with a roll of duct tape and some trash? “Turn it into a dress and top it with a Tiara” said Elizabeth McGhee. She is among several artists who will share a behind-the-scenes look at creating recycled couture. Everyone is encouraged to arrive wearing a festive hat to celebrate the fashionista theme. The event is presented in collaboration with The Artists Fund at Festival of Arts. \nMcGhee’s fashions have won multiple awards at the Recycled Runway fashion shows\, presented annually at Festival of Arts. Similar shows\, presented at Laguna Art Museum and Sawdust Festival\, follow a theme of up-cycling discarded or waste materials into couture fashions\, thereby reducing demand on resources and sending a message of conservation. \nMcGhee’s co-presenters include watercolorist NC Swan – a fellow Recycled Runway exhibitor\, and Carole Boller – chair of The Artists Fund Professional Development Committee. \nAttendees will enjoy a close up view of several dresses\, and a “behind-the-scenes” look at how artists may find materials\, assemble\, and fit them for a live model on a runway. All who wear hats may pose for photos\, and qualify for a fun prize drawing.\nRefreshments will be served\, and all will receive a coupon for a post-event discount at Lumberyard Restaurant.\nRegistration is required. LCAD Gallery 374 Ocean Ave\, metered parking on the street. \nCOST: Visitors $20\, LOCA general members $10\,\nLOCA supporter\, and higher level members – Free. \nhttps://www.foapom.com/events-fashion-show-2024/ \n
