SUMMARY:Decorate a Tile for LOCA’s Community Mosaic
DESCRIPTION:LOCA Arts Education invites the public to take part in a community mosaic project led by Mike Tauber. Everyone will decorate individual tiles with a choice of garden-themed subjects. Finished tiles will later be assembled to compose giant plaques to be exhibited at South Laguna Community Garden. Adults and families\, aged 10 and up may participate. Beginners and all levels are invited. \nWorkshops are Open Studio style\, and activity takes 30-minutes. The process involves picking a tile piece\, and drawing on an insect\, flower\, fruit\, or vegetable freehand or with a stencil. Glazes\, in certain colors specified by Tauber\, may be painted in using a brush. \nAfter kiln firing\, tiles will be mounted onto plaques in shapes of an artichoke\, carrot\, beet\, butterfly\, and strawberry. Plaques will be exhibited starting late may\, and the garden is open to the public. \nAges 10-up.   Free.  Registration required. \nCost is free and advanced registration is required. DESCRIPTION:The public is invited to LOCA Art Talks\, offered monthly in downtown Laguna Beach. Everyone who likes landscape painting will love meeting Mark Fehlman and Anthony Salvo. Both are multi-award winning signature members of Laguna Plein Air Painters Association. \nWhile both artists work in an impressionist style\, Fehlman has a background as an Architect\, and Salvo in Graphic Design and Advertising. Visitors will enjoy hearing how each artist individually approaches their subjects\, from selecting locations\, to creating dynamic compositions. Both artists will show rough sketches and finished art. \nAs a bonus – viewers will see sneak previews of their teaching videos. Fehlman will teach “Capturing Beauty”\, and Salvo will teach “How to Paint a Cottage”. DESCRIPTION:One Day Workshop: Wednesday November 5\, 2025 from 1:00 – 5:00pm \nJoin this painting class using the soft pastel medium.  Pastels are sticks of nearly pure pigment that can be layered to create vibrant works with no mixing\, drying\, or need for solvents.  Pastel Artist\, Dawn Buckingham\, will introduce her approach to pastel painting by leading mark making practice with the pastel sticks and she will demonstrate the use of an alcohol wash underpainting. Mini abstract paintings will be created during the mark making practice. \nNext\, participants will create a values sketch from the reference photo\, transfer the sketch to sanded paper\, and begin adding soft pastel layers with lots of individual help. You will have a finished painting that you will take home at the end of the session. \nThis class is appropriate for ALL levels.  Pastels use no solvents and do not create a dust issue when used properly.  Beginners will learn the pastel painting process and more experienced artists may learn new techniques to add to their painting practice. \nAll supplies provided for students. \nFee: $35 for Members /  $70 for Non-Members \nTeacher: Dawn Buckingham \nLaguna Beach Community Center / Susi Q Center located at 380 Third St\, free parking in the garage. DESCRIPTION:Art lovers are invited to join Mike Tauber for a fascinating sunset walk through downtown Laguna Beach. Tauber\, a tile artist and former City arts commissioner\, will share behind-the-scenes stories of 18 murals and sculptures\, how they got there\, and who created them. Attendees will learn how gallery art is different from public art\, how it is commissioned\, and why Laguna Beach has such an extensive collection. \nThe tour will conclude at 5:15pm at Hotel Laguna\, where everyone can enjoy an outdoor Art Start reception\, featuring gallery works by ceramicist Jesse Bartels\, photographer Sean Hunter Brown\, and watercolorist Lydia Delgado. Live music and complimentary wine will add to the experience. \nAs a bonus to those attending LOCA Art Talks\, everyone will receive a post-event certificate for 15%-off food at nearby Lumberyard Restaurant. Advance registration is required. Gather at 3:55pm under the Pepper Tree at Peppertree Lot between Forest and Ocean Avenue.
