SUMMARY:Decorate a Tile for LOCA’s Community Mosaic
DESCRIPTION:LOCA Arts Education invites the public to take part in a community mosaic project led by Mike Tauber. Everyone will decorate individual tiles with a choice of garden-themed subjects. Finished tiles will later be assembled to compose giant plaques to be exhibited at South Laguna Community Garden. Adults and families\, aged 10 and up may participate. Beginners and all levels are invited. \nWorkshops are Open Studio style\, and activity takes 30-minutes. The process involves picking a tile piece\, and drawing on an insect\, flower\, fruit\, or vegetable freehand or with a stencil. Glazes\, in certain colors specified by Tauber\, may be painted in using a brush. \nAfter kiln firing\, tiles will be mounted onto plaques in shapes of an artichoke\, carrot\, beet\, butterfly\, and strawberry. Plaques will be exhibited starting late June and the garden is open to the public. \nCost is free and advanced registration is required. The art is a wall display of 7 mosaic tile plaques displayed at South Laguna Community Garden Park starting in late-July 2025. \nWinning titles will be announced at a Dedication Event July 26\, 6:00-7:30pm\, and will be displayed alongside the art works. Prizes will be awarded for winning titles. The event is free\, public invited. \nOpen for Submissions June 24\, 2025 \nFinal date for Submissions July 10\, 2025. \nTo Enter \n\nSubmit maximum one title per plaque. DESCRIPTION:One Day Workshop: Wednesday November 5\, 2025 from 1:00 – 5:00pm \nJoin this painting class using the soft pastel medium.  Pastels are sticks of nearly pure pigment that can be layered to create vibrant works with no mixing\, drying\, or need for solvents.  Pastel Artist\, Dawn Buckingham\, will introduce her approach to pastel painting by leading mark making practice with the pastel sticks and she will demonstrate the use of an alcohol wash underpainting. Mini abstract paintings will be created during the mark making practice. \nNext\, participants will create a values sketch from the reference photo\, transfer the sketch to sanded paper\, and begin adding soft pastel layers with lots of individual help. You will have a finished painting that you will take home at the end of the session. \nThis class is appropriate for ALL levels.  Pastels use no solvents and do not create a dust issue when used properly.  Beginners will learn the pastel painting process and more experienced artists may learn new techniques to add to their painting practice. \nAll supplies provided for students. \nFee: $35 for Members /  $70 for Non-Members \nTeacher: Dawn Buckingham \nLaguna Beach Community Center / Susi Q Center located at 380 Third St\, free parking in the garage. DESCRIPTION:Art for Kids at the Laguna Beach Library on select Mondays at 4:30pm \nJanuary 12 through March 23\, 2026 \n  LOCA Arts Education is offering free art workshops for kids at Laguna Beach Public Library. Young children ages 5-up will learn different techniques and enjoy different themes each time. Themes are inspired by science\, nature\, seasonal holidays\, and more. Students will be taught about lighting\, transparency\, texture\, and color. \nTeacher: Elizabeth McGhee \nFEE: $25 for LOCA members / $50 for non-member \nThis class is held in the art room of the Susi Q senior center and made possible by a grant from the FAO Foundation.
