SUMMARY:The Poetry of Place: Painting Laguna Beach with Lisa Rainey
DESCRIPTION:Four Week Class – Consecutive Wednesdays – March 11\, 18\, 25 and April 1\, 2026: 1:30 – 4:00pm \nInstructor Lisa Rainey is a beloved teacher of all ages. Classically trained at the Laguna College of Art and Design\, Lisa brings decades of experience as a fine artist working in a playful\, Impressionistic style. In this four-week oil painting class (using water-soluble oils)\, students will paint the coves and hillsides of Laguna Beach\, inspired by the expressive color and light of masters Cézanne and Bonnard. \nEnjoy one\, several or all four classes and build your skills.  \nNew subjects each time – March 11\,18\, 25\, April 1  \nOpen to beginners and seasoned artists alike\, this class encourages exploration rather than strict structure. We will begin by simplifying the landscape into basic planes and loosely blocking in forms\, then explore how value builds form and how vivid color and light relationships create mood and emotion. Students will also practice intentional\, expressive brushwork and directional lines to suggest texture\, movement\, and depth\, all while developing a joyful\, personal approach to painting.  \nThis is an in-depth series\, try any or all four weeks. Class will be held on consecutive Wednesdays in the art room of the Susi Q. \nFEE:\nChoose All 4 Sessions:    $100 – LOCA members / $200 non-members\nChoose Any 3 Sessions:  $75 – LOCA members / $150 non-members\nChoose Any 2 Sessions:  $50 – LOCA members / $100 non-members\nChoose Any 1 Session:    $25 – LOCA members / $50 non-members \nThis class is supported by a grant from City of Laguna Beach and local lodging establishments.

SUMMARY:LOCA Art Talk ~ Backstage - Creating Recycled Fashion
DESCRIPTION:Backstage – Creating Recycled Fashion \nDiscover the fun of up-scaling discards into wearable art \nWhat do artists do with a roll of duct tape and some trash? “Turn it into a dress and top it with a Tiara” said Elizabeth McGhee. She is among several artists who will share a behind-the-scenes look at creating recycled couture. Everyone is encouraged to arrive wearing a festive hat to celebrate the fashionista theme. The event is presented in collaboration with The Artists Fund at Festival of Arts. \nMcGhee’s fashions have won multiple awards at the Recycled Runway fashion shows\, presented annually at Festival of Arts. Similar shows\, presented at Laguna Art Museum and Sawdust Festival\, follow a theme of up-cycling discarded or waste materials into couture fashions\, thereby reducing demand on resources and sending a message of conservation. \nMcGhee’s co-presenters include watercolorist NC Swan – a fellow Recycled Runway exhibitor\, and Carole Boller – chair of The Artists Fund Professional Development Committee. \nAttendees will enjoy a close up view of several dresses\, and a “behind-the-scenes” look at how artists may find materials\, assemble\, and fit them for a live model on a runway. All who wear hats may pose for photos\, and qualify for a fun prize drawing.\nRefreshments will be served\, and all will receive a coupon for a post-event discount at Lumberyard Restaurant.\nRegistration is required. LCAD Gallery 374 Ocean Ave\, metered parking on the street. \nCOST: Visitors $20\, LOCA general members $10\,\nLOCA supporter\, and higher level members – Free. \nhttps://www.foapom.com/events-fashion-show-2024/ \n
