One Day Workshop: Wednesday November 5, 2025 from 1:00 – 5:00pm
Join this painting class using the soft pastel medium. Pastels are sticks of nearly pure pigment that can be layered to create vibrant works with no mixing, drying, or need for solvents. Pastel Artist, Dawn Buckingham, will introduce her approach to pastel painting by leading mark making practice with the pastel sticks and she will demonstrate the use of an alcohol wash underpainting. Mini abstract paintings will be created during the mark making practice.
Next, participants will create a values sketch from the reference photo, transfer the sketch to sanded paper, and begin adding soft pastel layers with lots of individual help. You will have a finished painting that you will take home at the end of the session.
This class is appropriate for ALL levels. Pastels use no solvents and do not create a dust issue when used properly. Beginners will learn the pastel painting process and more experienced artists may learn new techniques to add to their painting practice.
All supplies provided for students.
Fee: $35 for Members / $70 for Non-Members
