LOCA Art Talk ~ Nellie Gail Moulton and Laguna’s Early Art Scene with Jared Mathis – Moulton Museum
November 12 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm
LOCA Art Talks presents Jared Mathis, President of Moulton Museum, for an engaging discussion on the life and legacy of Nellie Gail Moulton. The conversation will explore her pivotal role in Southern California’s early art scene, her artistic achievements, and her enduring impact as a painter and philanthropist in Laguna Beach and the surrounding region.
Attendees will learn how her mentors, including Frank Cuprien, Anna Hills, and Edgar Payne, influenced her work, and see familiar Laguna Beach landscapes she painted nearly 100 years ago. She exhibited at Festival of Arts, and was President of the Laguna Beach Art Association which evolved into Laguna Art Museum – where her name is inscribed in the lower gallery floor.
The Moulton Museum, founded in 2022, celebrates the history and legacy of Moulton Ranch – originally a sheep and cattle ranch spanning 22 thousand acres – from present day Lake Forest to Dana Point. The museum, open to the public, features numerous lectures and exhibits- including a gallery show of new collages by Barbara Hendricks.
As a bonus to those attending LOCA Art Talks, everyone will receive a post-event certificate for 15%-off food at nearby Lumberyard Restaurant.
